Projects

Peter Kiewit Sons Co – Sea to Sky Highway (Segment 1 – Horseshoe Bay)

Fletcher Excavations Ltd worked on various portions of the Sea to Sky Highway for over two years as a subcontractor to Peter Kiewit Sons Co. In the Horseshoe Bay section, Fletcher Excavations Ltd was brought in to mechanically scale a rock face called Cut 9. The work took place at night to minimize the impact on traffic, and took close to a month to complete. Use of the cable winch was necessary for safety on such a steep slope, but all loose debris and rocks were removed from the slope by Fletcher Excavations so construction could continue to complete the highway improvements.

Peter Kiewit Sons Co – Sea to Sky Highway (Segment 4 - Whistler)

Fletcher Excavations Ltd worked on various portions of the Sea to Sky Highway for over two years as a subcontractor to Peter Kiewit Sons Co. In the Whistler area Fletcher Excavations Ltd was used for a vast number of projects ranging from trenching and ditching, to mulching vegetation and building fish habitat. Our ability to simply drive down the road and work in the ditch without impeding traffic was a huge asset, as was our ability to work in confined areas, such as building fish habitat inside of a multi-plate culvert.

Peter Kiewit Sons Co – Plutonic Power Project (East Toba Inlet)

Fletcher Excavations Ltd was hired to mechanically scale a large rock face at this hydro electric power plant construction site. The Spider excavator was barged into the remote job site around Toba Inlet, outside of Powell River. Special rock anchors were installed at the top of the rock face so the Spider could attach our winch cable for safety, and begin the process of scaling the rock, all the way to the bottom of the face. Once we scaled the rock face, it was then drilled and blasted. We then proceeded to dig the trench for the Penstock pipeline.

British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC)/BC Hydro – Vegetation Maintenance

Fletcher Excavations Ltd has worked for BCTC and BC Hydro for the past five years maintaining vegetation growth under the transmission lines in the Sea to Sky corridor. The Spider excavator allowed us to mulch and mow steep and sensitive areas from October to June, even in deep snow. The advanced fuel efficiency and large fuel carrying capacity allowed us to work for extended periods of time without refueling, leading to less soil disturbance from making repeated trips back and forth to refuel.
